Special Issue: Intelligent Resource Management at the Edge for Future Web, Mobile and IoT Applications

Theme and Scope

Intelligent resource management plays a critical role in streamlining the processes and enhancing the network operations across the applications. Today, the Internet of Things (IoT), web, and mobile applications are creating the massive data influxes that stir up the network landscape. Thus, introducing new possibilities for network operational excellence and workflow automation has become critical. As a matter of fact, today’s scenario of network resource management is highly complex, and it is due to the breakneck pace of the technology that leads to various advancements. Driven by the advances in web, mobile, and IoT applications, billions of mobile and IoT devices are connected across the internet, making the process of network resource management to be highly complex. On the other hand, with the worldwide shift to digitization, there is immense pressure on organisations to move towards intelligent resource management at the edge. This is because the data generated from these devices should be quickly processed and executed to deal with real-time applications. To realise this trend, intelligent resource management with edge computing is an ideal solution to deal with future generations of the compute-intensive web, mobile, and IoT applications.

Intelligent resource management at the edge is an emerging paradigm that offers decentralized computing power at the edge to collect, analyse, generate, and communicate in real-time. It offers functionalities such as connectivity, computing, autonomy, and controllability to the network resources. The key benefits of implementing intelligent edge computing solutions for future mobile computing and IoT applications include reduced dependency on network performance, reduced security threats, improved reliability, seamless user experience, and reduced overhead expenses. This enables IoT devices to process complex events in real-time in a more efficient manner. It includes the processing power, communication competencies, and intelligence directly into the devices. So that it offers substantial power for the IoT, mobile, and web application operators to operate the devices more efficiently. This will ultimately lead to the vision of the network computing fabric where the gap between the network and the computer will be bridged. Thus, more advanced research in this stream will enable the network operators to enter into the era where the IoT, mobile, and web devices can think independently, act, and respond to the changes in a smarter way. It further makes the devices to handle the network resources more efficiently. In this context, this special issue aims to bring out the advances in edge intelligence for efficient resource management in web, IoT, and mobile computing from the future perspective. We welcome researchers and practitioners working in this stream to present their novel and innovative research contributions.

Each paper, written in English, the maximum words number in each paper should be below 8,000 words, including references and illustrations. More information can be found at https://jit.ndhu.edu.tw/.
