Special Issue on "Quality Assurance of Dependable Systems and Software"

Theme and Scope

The Internet has prevailed everywhere. Many things are connected and communicated with each other within the same network or among different networks to provide aggregated services that have significant impacts on our lives. Quality assurance has become a critical component at every stage in the development of these things. In this special issue, we focus such things on Dependable Software Systems, especially systems whose operations are initiated and/or controlled by software. We emphasize three major research domains: 1) the quality assurance of artifacts generated during various stages of the development, such as program code and design documents, 2) the definition and exploration of quality relationships among different development phases, such as the impact that the quality of requirements might have on the quality of the derived architecture, and 3) the investigation of how codification and communication of knowledge affects the quality these artifacts.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Testing and validation: automation, conformance, strategies, economics, performance and robustness, processes and standards
  • Metrics and evaluation: management and assurance, measurement and benchmarking, review, inspection and walkthrough, reliability, safety, and security
  • Formal methods and verification: program analysis, model checking, and model construction
  • Components and reuse: requirements engineering, architecture, middleware, and application servers
  • Emerging technology: pervasive computing, service-oriented computing, cloud computing, artificial intelligence and machine learning
  • Applications: IoT systems, component-based systems, digital libraries, distributed systems, e-commerce, embedded systems, real-time systems, enterprise applications, information systems, multimedia, web-based systems, mission- and safety critical systems
