Theme and Scope Logistics is a vital element in improving the supply chain of any organization. It even boosts the business by increasing productivity. In any business, transportation from supplier to production unit and movement of finished products to customers depends on the untroubled logistics. In the e-commerce sector, the expectation of the customers must be fulfilled without compromising the timely, safe, secured and damage-free delivery. Therefore, smart logistics can play an important role in distributing products to customers all over the world by using technology to reach customers without delay. Usage of smart logistics can also improve the efficiency and planning of the business. Smart logistics use various technology in transportation such as smart robots, driverless vehicles and automatic systems to handle the products inside the warehouse. They use artificial intelligence for better logistics as well. Smart logistics also uses the Internet of Things (IoT) to meet the expectations and needs of customers all over the world. The E-commerce supply chain is known for its easy accessibility, safety and timely delivery of orders. Therefore, these delivery and supply chains are enhanced with computer networks that are easy to connect and track. With the help of GPS and mobile networks, the movement of goods is monitored effectively. The products are observed till delivery through geo-coding enhanced with machine learning algorithms. The main challenges in smart logistics are delay in delivery, damage of products. This can be controlled by technologies such as Smart Logistics Configurator (SLC), automation, tele tracking technology, predictive analysis and automated vehicles. IoT sensors help in tracking the delivery with smart auto-routing. Sensors get the data about the products and the data can be used to track the shipment of the product with the help of machine learning algorithms. In food logistics, they capture the data and ensure the safety of the food and delivery. These IoT sensors provide information including the weather patterns, nature of the product, temperature, pick up from the supplier, route, etc to facilitate safer delivery by the delivery officials. Adopting a hybrid agent-based approach can also help the smart logistics of the organisation. These technologies help the companies to forecast the demand and to make operational decisions. Additionally, educating the workforce with modernised tools and technologies can also help in increasing the competence of the business. The coordination of different technologies makes the logistics of a company easier and smatter day by day. Undoubtedly, e-commerce and mobile commerce are the future of business. It is necessary to increase the technologies involved in logistics with improved systemisation, visibility and optimisation. This special issue titled “Smart Logistics Technologies for E-Business and Mobile Commerce” gives researchers a excellent platform to analyse various aspects of smart logistic techniques and methods in the areas of e-business and m-commerce.
