Abstract

Multimedia streaming has been extensively used in current Internet communication. To serve numerous users simultaneously, streaming systems usually adopt the multicast technique for efficient packet delivery. Interactivity is often ignored in such systems because of the inefficiency of feedbacks in multicast networks. This paper proposed an Internet news gathering (ING) communication model. The ING system shows the way to provide audio-visual interactions in large scale multicast streaming applications. To advance the applicable scale, we design the ING communication to collaborate with the layered media technique such that multiple qualities can be supported to apply the system on the heterogeneous Internet environment. The derivative problems of buffer control and sophisticate media stream synchronization are discussed and resolved. We describe the development detaisl of the overall system to show our way to realize ING communication. The effectiveness of our design is further evaluated and experimented.
