Chinacom 2020 - 15th EAI International Conference on Communications and Networking in China With the exponential growth of data traffic due to ubiquitous portable devices, machine to machine communications, and novel user-centric applications such as augmented/virtual reality, the demands for a new computing paradigm also increasing. The large pool of traditional cloud resources and services has contributed to the development of society. However, state-of-the-art cloud computing turns into a problem for communication-intensive applications, which need to meet the delay requirements. The problem becomes more intense as the huge application of the Internet of Things. Mobile Edge Computing which processes data at the nearest available nodes is emerging as very promising computation architecture to handle ever-increasing demands. It aims to enable the millions of connected mobile devices to execute the real-time applications directly at the network edge, and provides sufficient mobility support. However, there are several challenges and problems should be solved before we can enjoy the benefits of the advanced mobile edge computing architecture. For examples, the heterogeneity of kinds of devices, the deployment of services and applications, the task allocation and offloading as well as resource management. Hence, this special section will bring together leading researchers and developers to explore recent advanced technologies for mobile edge computing, especially in the wireless personal communications field, in terms of system, service and application. The topics of interest for the special issue include, but are not limited to:
Topics l Advanced communication network design and implementation in mobile edge computing l Autonomous mobile edge system in wireless personal communication l Operating system and framework for mobile edge computing l Smart mobile edge services and application l Testbed, experiments, and simulations of advanced mobile edge system l Advanced workload allocation and offloading mechanisms l Green and sustainable resource management l Advanced QoS adaptive design and algorithms in mobile edge computing l Performance optimization in mobile edge computing l Artificial intelligence algorithm design and application in mobile edge computing l Advanced security and privacy in mobile edge computing l Tools and benchmarks for intelligent mobile edge computing system
