Abstract

MQTT has become one of the most common communication protocols for various Internet of Things (IoT) applications. The MQTT 5.0 standard has been proposed to support better security and functional designs. However, the existent MQTT End-to-End (E2E) mechanisms were not designed for the new MQTT 5.0; so, up to now, there is no MQTT5.0-based E2E design, implementation, and security analysis.
This study designs and implements MQTT5.0-based E2E scheme, adopting the MQTT 5.0 enhanced authentication framework and the newly added extension field - User Property. The evaluation of the implementation shows that the design is efficient and scalable. It shares some potentials of MQTT5.0-based designs and implementations.
