Development of a Remote Monitor and Diagnosis System through a PC-Based Controller
Abstract
In this paper, a remote monitor and diagnosis system was developed, which allowed a remote computer to connect with a local computer through a PC-based controller via the telephone line. This system is beneficial and efficient for maintenance engineers to communicate with each other without physically being at the machine site while diagnosing or inspecting machines. The developed system helps to reduce maintenance cost for machine suppliers and improves repair efficiency for machine users, in particular for multi-national corporations where on-site visits may be costly and time consuming. Further, if a CAD/CAM system is integrated in the developed system, significant improvement can be achieved in terms of the exchanging of professional advice in product manufacture. The NC and system programs in the controller of machine tools can also be updated by the remote engineers.
