Abstract

The third-generation partnership project (3GPP) and 3GPP2 have standardized the IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) to provide anywhere, anytime multimedia access with independent IP-based services for next-generation networks via converging Internet and the Cellular networks. Such Converging architectures satisfy the customers with different link bandwidth, Coverage, Mobility and Quality of Service (QoS). In this paper, QoS provisioned hybrid interworking architecture to integrate 3G-Universal Mobile Telecommunication Systems (UMTS) and Worldwide Interoperability in Microwave Access (WiMAX) networks is proposed. IMS-SIP registration and session setup signaling for UMTS-WiMAX is also analyzed and compared with 3G-WiMAX interworking without QoS provisioning architecture. Moreover, the proposed hybrid architecture is also used to analyze both data (File, email transfer) and voice over IP simultaneously among different mobile users with large covering area. This proposed architecture supports both real time and non real time traffic and provides better throughput and less delay achieving strong QoS services. QoS parameters such as Ethernet load and delay, IP Packet end to end delay, TCP delay, Active TCP connection count and TCP retransmission count, Email download response and upload response, Voice jitter and Voice packet delay variations, Email traffic and voice traffic received, IP processing delay and Ethernet traffic received are analyzed using OPNET 14.5.
