Abstract

Recently with the enhancement of computer technologies and development of Internet, the network traffic explosively grows up. To salve the problem of lacking Internet addresses, IETF has proposed a next generation Internet protocol (IPng or IPv6), which replaces the conventional 32-bit addressing by 128-bit addressing. Moreover, the IPv6 naturally supports the mobility and multimedia communications. In order to accommodate the requirements for next generation networks, this paper design and implement the switch-based IPv6 routers (SIR) systems, and the experimental results will also be evaluated. This paper will present the system architecture and operation flows of SIR. The IPv6 address lookup design will be also emphasize in the proposed SIR systems. Consequently, the implementations and experimental results will also be demonstrated.
