Abstract

Robots have a large set of basic behaviors and are designed to perform various tasks. Controlling a robot with many degrees of freedom and behaviors consumes a significant amount of resources. In general, robots are equipped with limited computing resources and robot services feature different computing requirement such as sensors, actuators, computational capabilities, and time constraint of service in networked robots. In this paper, we define a service context and propose a management scheme of service contexts to provide intelligent services for networked robots. By configuring the service contexts for each service, the proposed method efficiently uses the limited computing resources of a robot and improves the overall performance of a networked robot system. The proposed method is experimented on the real networked robotic system. The results illustrate that the time constraint for services is satisfied and the resource utilization is improved. It can provide the extensibility for various sensors, services and robots by aptly modifying and explicitly specifying service contexts.
