Abstract

Researching Multichannel protocols, including multichannel routing protocol at network layer and media access control MAC protocol of data link layer, are hot topics in wireless communication networks. Network Simulator 2 NS2 is a mandate simulation tool, however its Mobile Node Architecture MNA does not natively support multichannel model. Existing works that extend NS2 for multichannel communication have apparent problems in supporting multichannel simulation. So this paper proposes an multichannel simulation model, named as Multi-Channel Multi-Interface Model MCMIM, in which multichannel routing protocol are flexibly supported. By extending MNA of NS2, coherent controls of routing entities and data link layer ones, dynamic configuring the relation between MACs and network interfaces are realized. MCMIM model supports multichannel routing protocols in a flexible way while meeting the requirements of dynamic channel distribution and handover. Simulation results show that MCMIM model has the capability and characteristics to support multichannel routing protocols.
