Abstract

In this paper, we show how we use a relatively new agent-oriented modeling language, Tropos, and extend it, to model Quality of Service (QoS) in distibuted systems. The advantage of Tropos is that, in addition to the traditional system modeling phases, it has a special emphasis on modeling early phase requirements of a system. We have used a case study to demonstrate our solution. The novelty of the work is that we demonstrate with the help of an example how QoS in distributed systems can be modeled by extending the dimensions of an agent-oriented ontology. To the best of our knowledge, there is no such work available in the literature. As QoS in distributed systems encompasses complex considerations involving a multitude of scenarios, we have taken a simple example in this paper to demonstrate our methodology. However, we believe that the methodology can be extended for modeling complex QoS considerations.
