Abstract

This paper defines the elementary school student information ontology and describes an ontology-based campus web service for student information exchange in elementary schools in Tainan City, Taiwan. The ontology categories are mapped to administrative units of the school, such as the Educational Affairs Division, the Counseling Division, and so forth. Each category of the ontology contains a set of events, which are in turn related to a set of concepts. In the ontology-based web service, when a student transfers from one school to another, the information associated with the student can be automatically exchanged between the registration departments of the two schools. Compared to the traditional paperwork-based student information transfer process, the service provided by the ontology-based campus web system is both more rapid and more convenient.
