Abstract

On-line game is flourishing. Go, western chess and Chinese chess are the most popular on-line board games. Most of on-line chess websites adopt the USCF rating system proposed by the United States Chess Federation. But the USCF rating system cannot be used directly on the Go website. The USCF system also does not consider user's network behaviors.
In this paper, new rating formulas and the standard point concept are developed. These methods establish a reasonable rating system for on-line game websites of Go. The requirements of a good rating system are not only accurate and rational but also help to attract more on-line players to the site. The proposed formula for forecasting rating and the standard point concept help the website manager to achieve the stated goals.
