Abstract

TIis paper describes the problems with the IPv4 address space especially in widely deployed cellular networks. IPv6 is presented as a solution to the problems. Transition to IPv6 is briefly analyzed both in 3GPP and 3GPP2 cellular networks focusing on IP Multimedia Core Network Subsystem (IMS) transition scenarios. IMS-based Peer-to-peer servics are described and a recommendation of the radio a ccess technology independent, common IP Multimedia Subsystem based on IPv6 for both 3GGP and 3GGP2 is given.
