Abstract

The openness of Internet has driven it as the mainstream of data communication and streaming media distribution. And the rapidly growing Internet traffic also results in the hardly traffic congestion over the international Synchronous Optical Network (Sonet) access link that connects TANet and U.S. Internet. For a network management, it is essential to learn the transmission performance through the visible traffic analysis result. This work developed the Coding Violation (CV) and TCP/UDP/ICMP traffic monitoring web pages based on the Sonet MIB and transportation traffic logs gathered from aggregate router. Moreover, we calculated the correlation coefficients between transmission errors and UDP/ICMP competitive traffic of our measurement network. The result shows that there exist several obvious CV bursts and TCP traffic degression during traffic peak hours. And the correlation between CV and UDP/ICMP traffic were significant during the sustaining ICMP traffic burst time periods.
