Abstract

Intelligent Transportation System empowers diversity of safety and emergency applications which rely on wireless ad-hoc communication. Those applications desire fast dissemination, reliability, and dissemination in restricted area so only significant information will be delivered to the selected vehicles. In our previous work, we have proposed LARB, a location-aware reliable protocol which suits such those characteristics. To address the issue of vehicular scenarios, our protocol performs beaconing to gather the knowledge of neighbor information to control a broadcasting radius. Our protocol uses neighbor density information to calculate the proper maximum number of hops to limit the broadcasting radius dynamically. The simulation results show that our protocol along with hop calculation outperforms any other protocols which using GPS. In terms of coverage, our protocol is able to disseminate message up to 100 of total vehicles in the desired boundary. In this paper, we kindly introduce LARB with some modification of parameters, so called LARB-alpha. Our new protocol can improve a delivery ratio inside region in high vehicle density scenario as well as a delivery ratio outside region in various scenarios. The protocol's performance is evaluated by a simulation on a network simulator ns-3. Simulation results reveal that LARB-alpha outperforms its original LARB protocol and any other protocols which required GPS as their main mechanism in terms of both delivery ratios inside region and outside region.
