Heterogeneous Wireless Sensor Network with EPC Network Architecture for U-Life Environment
Abstract
The most popular technologies for implementing ubiquitous networks are radio frequency identification (RFID) and wireless sensor networks (WSNs), which have been actively investigated in the literature. Before the RFID and WSN technologies can be applied to ubiquitous networks successfully, a clear understanding of the issues involved in integrating WSNs with electronic product code (EPC) in RFID systems is essential. This work proposes an approach to integrating RFID and WSN architectures through interworking between WSN and EPC to formulate a WSN/EPC network architecture. This combination provides a flexible system framework and a convenient platform for selecting the modules that users needed to develop a digital home environment. The WSN/EPC framework also facilitates implementation of heterogeneous networks in a U-life environment.
