Special Issue: Emerging Trends of the Internet of Things in Social Sciences

Theme and Scope

Communication technologies drive efficiency and informed decision-making across social, environmental, and economic domains. As the 'Internet of Things' integrates machines into network systems, sophisticated communication and dynamic interactions become essential for connecting intelligent entities. Therefore, the 'EAI SGIoT 2026' special issue focuses on practical, digital-capability applications and research challenges—such as resource utilization, telecommunication collaboration, competence transfer, security, and privacy protection—to meet the needs of intelligent societies.

Topics appropriate for this special issue include, but are not limited to:

  • IoT communication services, applications, and commercial management
  • IoT applications in Fin-tech and healthcare
  • Big data analysis in the IoT
  • Intellectual property matters regarding recent IoT advances
  • Security, privacy, and dependability issues
  • Voice, image, and video processing in the IoT

Instructions for Manuscripts

  • Papers submitted to the special issue should contain original materials not published in nor submitted to other journals. Submissions must be directly sent via email to Leading Guest Editor, Prof. Der-Jiunn Deng: djdeng@cc.ncue.edu.tw
  • All submitted papers must conform to the layout and format guidelines of JIT.
  • The guest editors expect that this special issue of JIT will attract not only the outstanding results from local researchers but also good quality papers from around the world. Quality of the special issue will be guaranteed. In addition, the guest editors may work with the Editor-in-chief of the journal to invite distinguished researchers in the related areas for position papers. Authors whose selected papers have been accepted and presented at the SGIoT 2026 (http://sgiot.org/) are also invited to submit an extended and revised version of their papers to this special issue. The papers must have at least 70% new material compared to the conference paper.

Important Dates

  • Full papers due (special-issue submission): November 30, 2026
  • Notification of acceptance/rejection/revision: February 28, 2027
  • Revised manuscript due: March 31, 2027
  • Final manuscript due: April 30, 2027
  • Tentative publication date: The 3rd or the 4th quarter, 2028
